Breast Feeding After Giving Birth Things You Need To Know 1

A large number of pregnant women spend much of their time planning for the delivery of their babies and absolutely no time thinking about breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding is one of the most important parts of being a mother and although you have a choice whether to breastfeed your baby or not, it is important that you try it out.

Breastfeeding is not simple because you and your newborn must learn to actually breastfeed. In many cases, you`ll find that after giving birth you do not have enough milk to breastfeed your baby.

You can stay for days without milk and your baby will cry a lot. However, doctors and midwives will advise you to give your baby a formula top up. In many cases, breastfeeding doesn’t go as many women expect it to be.

According to research conducted, 96% of women are actually able to start breastfeeding but only 39% would still be breastfeeding three months later. Breastfeeding is basically a challenge and it is important that you know what to expect so that you can prepare yourself well enough. Here are things that you can put in mind.

  •          Consider taking classes

Many hospitals are now providing breastfeeding antenatal classes. This is the best opportunity for you to ask all the relevant questions concerning breastfeeding and what you should expect. You can also join breast feeding discussions and find out more information on what to expect.

  •          Breastfeeding is affected by how you give birth

Breastfeeding is always affected by ways in which you give birth. For example, if you give birth through cesarean, it will take a longer time for your milk to come.

It is important that you know which way you are going to deliver your baby so that you can put the right measures in place. However, no matter the method you choose, milk will always come and you`ll be able to breast feed your baby.

  •          Have an early plan

According to experts, having a breastfeeding plan is very important. The two key factors that contribute to successful breastfeeding is preparation and getting information.

A good breastfeeding plan includes how you are going to start the breastfeeding and what is important to you when it comes to feeding your baby.  This is also important because it gives you baby sitters and partners a clear guideline of what youwish.

  •          Know when it’s time to ask for help

Breastfeeding can be so hard and although it`s natural to others, it is important that you ask for help in case you experience any problems. You should ensure that you get help early enough as this helps in building confidence and a strong bond between you and the baby.

If you are a working mum, you may need advice on how to feed your baby when you`ve gone back to work. It doesn’t matter what the problem could be, just seek help and you`ll get it.

  •          Watch out for warning signs

There cases where breastfeeding has seen to serious complications. The good thing is that many conditions that have been reported are not serious and normally mums continue to breastfeed their babies as they undergo treatment. However, it is important to watch out for these signs and consult with your doctor.

  •          It`s going to be ok

You`ll hear stories of women who have mastitis and other complications. You`ll be worried that the same can happen to you. The reality is that you can provide enough milk to feed your baby and ones you`ve started breastfeeding, it will a simple task for you.
