BENEFITS OF GREEN TEA. Babies are a great addition to every home but they are not always that easy to come by. Those that are having a hard time conceiving may begin looking for ways to improve their chances of conceiving a baby. Methods that have minimal side effects are easier and better to start with.

What better method than a natural one? A method that involves no additives? How about the beverage that is a constant in every home and gathering? Care for some tea? Some green tea maybe?

Green tea is made from unfermented tea leaves. It contains a significant amount of polyphenols, which are believed to act like antioxidants. Antioxidants are substances that protect body cells against damage from free radicals that can lead to cancer or various other diseases.BENEFITS OF GREEN TEA.

It is still a type of tea so it does have caffeine in it. The caffeine quantity is however very low at 20 milligrams per average cup. This is the lowest amount of caffeine in the most common beverages since coffee has around 120 milligrams and black tea has 40 milligrams.

There are however no specific results to prove that green tea actually improves fertility. A small study was done among 15 women and a third of them were given a nutritional supplement that had green tea extract. These conceived after 5 months but since the numbers were small it was considered not enough.

If taken in large amounts just before fertility treatment green tea can interfere with the outcome of such treatments like IVF. Too much green tea before conception has been linked to spina bifida in the fetus. This is when the neural tube (the tube around the nervous system) does not close up completely. It is thought that it interferes with the way the fetus absorbs folic acid.

Green tea does interfere with the absorption of iron in adults. The polyphenols reduce how much iron your body absorbs from non-meat foods. You should therefore take it between meals instead of during meals to let your body absorb all the iron it needs first.

If you want to reduce the caffeine content in your green tea even further, you can opt for decaffeinated green tea. This does not give you leeway to take 10 cups a day but will ensure that you keep your caffeine intake at a minimum. Go a little easy on it and see a gynecologist if you are having trouble conceiving and you are above 35 years of age.
