In case your children don’t especially like Okra Soup due to the bits of Okra, then simply try Ogbono Soup, they are going to surely love it.
Here is yet another offering of ‘draw soup‘ that you will find on many Nigerian restaurant menus. Certain things just blend well together, stock fish, smoked fish, Pomo, beef ,ogbono, and bitter leaf combo with pounded yam or Eba is a winner any day. I have always pondered why fresh fish is not favored in this soup.
Ogbono which is the seed of African mango is known to have benefits in controlling weight. Some composition of this seed helps prevent sugars from being stored in the body.I am sure soon lots of ogbono will be exported for medicinal purposes.
So when my cousin brought home some ogbono seeds (a gift from his friend), I knew for sure what to do with it. It would only befitting to whip up a good Ogbono Soup paired with pounded yams shaped into bite-sized dumplings. I don’t know about you, but ever since I watched a documentary on TV about commercialized powdered yams, I started being more conscious about my yams

Ingredients for Ogbono Soup

Assorted Meat and Fish: Beef, Shaki, DryFish, Stock Fish
Ogbono Seeds: 2 handfuls
Palm Oil: 3 Cooking spoons
Vegetable: Frozen Spinach (you can also use Pumpkin leaves or even Bitterleaf)
Crayfish: 1 handful
Pepper and Salt – To taste
1 medium size Onion
2 Stock cubes
