JUICES FOR CONSTIPATION.We all know that constipation is a common issue. Because of improper diets and lifestyle, many people suffer from it, not to mention painful and/or hard stools can be quite troublesome to deal with. To cap it all, when it becomes chronic, it can be a worrying health problem indeed.
Are you aware of the saying that the root of good health lies in your gut? If your digestive system functions properly and you go to the toilet regularly, chances are that your overall health would be excellent. Therefore, if you are experiencing terribly hard stools or less than 3 trips to the toilet each week, you are probably constipated.
As you may already know by now, a balanced diet coupled with regular exercise and an adequate intake of fluids is an excellent and effective solution to constipation. Of course, if you make these lifestyle changes and still see no difference in your digestive health, it’s possible that there are other underlying reasons for your constipation such as taking some medications like iron supplements, neurological conditions, certain diseases like hypothyroidism, and so on.
Recently, juices have received quite a lot of attention in their ability to improve bowel movement, and why not? Juices are one of the best ways to introduce healthy doses of vitamins and nutrients to your body, not to mention the high fiber content that supports a healthy digestive system.
But the question is, are juices really effective for constipation and are they suitable for everyone? Yep, to some extent, juices do relieve constipation, though they are not useful in babies.
Now, what are the actual benefits of drinking juices for constipation?
Juices are kind of like superfoods because they are basically a combination of raw veggies and fruits that give you all the nutrients your body needs in their purest forms as well being high in fiber to give you the right amount of roughage that your digestive system needs to function at its best.
Another fun benefit of the fiber in juices is that they help to satiate your hunger and prevent you from binge eating unhealthy foods that are bad for your gut.
When it comes to juices, there are loads of options available but when it comes to juices that specifically target your bowel, improve bowel movement and prevent constipation, there are quite a few excellent options.
If you want to improve your bowel movement, start your day with a cup of any of the following juices.
Pear juice has been a subject of research for its ability to support bowel movement. It is a rich source of dietary fiber with quantities higher than apples. Pear juice also contains sorbitol, a sugar alcohol that’s been used as a diuretic and laxative for many years as it holds water in the intestines and stimulates the contraction of muscles thus creating a laxative effect.
To make the juice, chop 2 freshly washed pears and blend them in a juicer. Pour the juice in a glass and add a dash of lemon juice. Mix well and drink. The fruit can be consumed along with the skin.
PLUM OR PRUNE JUICE
Prunes, otherwise known as plums are rich in dietary fiber, sorbitol and phenolic compounds like chlorogenic acid which serve as natural laxatives, making it effective in the treatment of constipation and for an easier bowel movement.
It can be prepared by blending 5 prunes and then mixing it with a glass of warm water. You may add half a teaspoon of honey to taste, then mix well. It is advised that you drink one glass of plum juice regularly for the prevention and treatment of constipation.JUICES FOR CONSTIPATION.
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” This is totally true in relation to constipation because apple juice is rife with essential vitamins and minerals, healthy fiber and sorbitol which help treat constipation. It is advised to make it at home as it is more effective that way than buying the manufactured juice.
To make it, blend one apple with half a cup of water. You can also add half a teaspoon of fennel seed powder as it is high in fiber as well then mix thoroughly and drink.
Including the skin in the juices also helps to maximize the amount of fiber intake.JUICES FOR CONSTIPATION.
It may surprise you to note that ripe yellow bananas are effective for dealing with constipation while the unripe bananas are actually used for taking care of diarrhea. This is because, ripe bananas contain a bit of soluble sugars, soluble fiber and tannins while unripe bananas contain higher amounts of tannins and starch which can worsen constipation. This is why it’s just the ripe bananas that are used as juices to treat constipation, so be careful when making your choice.
The juice of the mango fruit is one of the most effective juices to get your bowels moving. It is an excellent source of nutrients and fiber that helps to rid you of constipation. It can be consumed by both kids and adults.
To prepare it, chop 1 or 2 mango fruits leaving out the seed and blend with a cup of water. Once it is ready, pour it into a glass of water and drink.
Consuming juices to improve bowel movement may be helpful due to their high fiber and sorbitol contents as long as your constipation is a result of lifestyle issues. However, note that you should not overdo as excessively drinking these juices can lead to diarrhea.
Homemade juices are better so don’t strain them, that way you can retain the maximum quantities of fiber and sorbitol from the fruits. Drink the juices fresh, within one or two days of making them.
As much as you can, try to avoid consuming those packaged juices because they tend to contain great amounts of preservatives and extra sugar, and you really don’t want that anyway.
