A 56-year-old man has been detained by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly murdering his 38-year-old ‘wife’.
Aminu Abubakar, the suspect, is a resident of Lelewaji, Shagari phase 2 in Yola South Local Government Area. He is accused of assaulting his wife, Nana Fadimatu, after they got into a little argument over the deceased’s plans to wed another man.
After hearing that information, the suspect became enraged with her and attacked her on May 5 at around 10 p.m. He beat her with a hard instrument, causing her to fall to the ground unconscious and later be pronounced dead.
As a result of information obtained from the suspect’s awaiting husband Mahmud Rufai of Shagari Annex, Yola South Local Government Area, the suspect was detained by the police in Shagari Divisional Police Headquarters.
The state police command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the first results of the investigation show that the suspect, who works as the manager of Anasam Table Water at Jambutu 50 Housing, had one (1) child with the dead after nine (9) years of marriage.
He claimed that although expressing disbelief, the state’s chief of police, CP Afolabi Babatola, praised DPO Shagari for apprehending the culprit and made it impossible for him to flee justice.
