Police apprehends man for allegedly raping his wife’s 15-year-old sister

The Lagos State police command has arrested a man identified as Ademola Ojomu, along Gbagada-Oshodi Road, for allegedly raping the younger sister of his wife. The man allegedly started raping the sister in-law about two years ago when the girl was 13.

According to reports, Ojomu always threaten that he would stop paying the poor girl’s school fees if she told a third party. The girl later confided in one of her school teachers, who reported the case to the Child Protection Network in the community which help to arrest the man.

The coordinator of the group, Toyin Okanlawon, said the girl had been taken to a shelter in Lagos while the suspect was transferred to the gender unit of the state police command in Ikeja. He said,

“According to the girl, her sister’s husband started having carnal knowledge of her in 2016 whenever the sister was not around. She said he always used condoms to prevent pregnancy. The suspect works at a diagnostic centre along Gbagada-Oshodi Road and pays the school fees of the girl. Anytime the girl complained about the unlawful act, he would threaten to stop paying her school fees. The man has a child and his wife is pregnant. She wants the case to be withdrawn from the police station so that he would not lose his job.

“But as a group, which insists that the interest of the child must be protected at all times regardless of who is involved, we decided to report the case to the police. He denied raping the girl.”She said he always used condoms to prevent pregnancy. The suspect works at a diagnostic centre along Gbagada-Oshodi Road and pays the school fees of the girl.
