Congratulations, you are pregnant! Brace yourself for a challenging but exciting time ahead of you.

If you are wondering about what’s happening to your body, then wonder no more. Here, we give you the lowdown on the changes that your body is going through.

The transformation process that your baby goes through from a tiny fertilized egg to the little person that he is when born, is amazing. Although we will not be able to show you the complete picture, we hope that we will be able to give a tiny glimpse of it in this series of articles on foetal development timeline. We hope that you enjoy your pregnancy. We will keep you company all through the nine months of your journey.

Week 1 – 4

What is happening in your body?

On the 4th week, you’ll likely to miss your period. You also start to experience the early symptoms of pregnancy such as breast tenderness, cramps and frequent urination. You may also bleed slightly. If you are used to slight period, you will probably not notice the first few weeks of your pregnancy.

What’s happening to your baby?

Pregnancy starts when the sperm fertilised the egg. Once this happens, changes take place quickly. Within 12 hours, a small group of cells are formed and your baby’s life begins. By day 4, this group of cells journeys from your fallopian tube and into your uterus, where they establish themselves. By the time you realise that you missed your period, you are already 4 weeks pregnant. Your baby is already 2mm long and the placenta is also forming.
