Scriptures to Speak over your Child. The scriptures say that the power of life and death are in our tongue. The same word also tells us not to commit murder.  Parents commit murder by killing dreams via words. The Bible also tells us to train our children in the way that they should go and when they grow up, they will not depart from it. The word of God is alive and living and sharper than a double edged sword, dividing the soul and spirit. It is this power that every believing parent possess.

Why What and How you Speak Matters

Parents are usually checking one side of a conversation and that is , how their children speak to them. We are always on their case and correcting them even before they make the next move. It is no wonder our children always expect us to disapprove any effort that they make. We do not view things objectively. There are certain aspects that you need to watch as you communicate with your child.

You need to watch your tone. A critical or even  harsh tone does more harm than good.. Always try your best to speak with your child in a calm and relaxed tone. The child will be likely to listen to you, not just hear you but actually listen and see your point of view. A harsh tone is not effective. Yelling tears apart the parent-child relationship. In fact research has been conducted to show that yelling and spanking have the same impact on a child. Before you regulate your child, regulate yourself tone wise.

Do note that your children learn from your behaviour. What you give is what you get so if you want to see a change in them you might as well speak it. Changing your tone does not mean that you condone bad behaviour but it simply means that you are in control of the situation and not vice versa. Simply be gentle and firm and your child will get the message.

You are the Point of Reference

As a parent you should know that you are the first point of reference for your child.. Before your child believes someone else, they need to believe in you. Now that you know how to watch your tone, you can easily explain to them anything they need to know. As a parent do not assume things. Your child needs answers. Your child will be dealing with a cold world. Be their warmth and their validation. Let your child never feel like they are not enough. Let nobody make them think they cannot make it. Let them know, see and feel your assurance and validation every step of the way.

Scriptures to Bless your Child

Above all, guide your heart and search for scriptures to speak over your child and here are some:

  1. “The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
  2. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29
  3. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
  4. “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2 Corinthians 13:14
  5. “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” 3 John 1:2

  14. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household.” Acts 16:31
  15. “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

And these words shall not depart from you day and night. The words you speak will never leave the heart of your child so speak them well. Speak with great love because you are creating a path for them. Be their light and their salt so that they too can illuminate their world with reason no matter the season.

You can actually speak over them in the morning and in the evening. Never let them go a day without being reassured by you.

If you do not speak scriptures over your child then someone else will speak another thing to them. The Television is speaking, their peers are speaking, the bully is speaking, Hollywood is speaking, so why are you silent. Rise up and take your position of authority and with lots of love, speak the word that generates life and kills anything that could harm them. It might not count now but one day, you shall reap what you sow. Start today. You can even start speaking when they are still in their mother’s womb. And as the word of God says. When they grow up, they will surely not depart from it.
